Corona treatment for plastic film
Aufer Surface Tech, a division of Aufer Solutions S.L., supplies and integrates corona treatment systems for plastic film, sheets, labels and other continuous materials. The configuration is defined according to the material, web width, production speed and required surface energy.

The objective is to maintain reliable adhesion of inks, coatings, adhesives or laminates throughout the production process. We study the application and carry out trials before selecting the system.
What is corona treatment for plastic film used for?
Materials such as polyethylene, polypropylene and other plastic films may have low surface energy. This makes wetting difficult and can cause printing, coating or laminating problems.
Corona treatment applies a high-voltage discharge to the material surface to raise its surface energy. As a result, ink, adhesive or coating can spread and adhere more uniformly.
Applications in film, printing and converting
- PE, PP and PET film.
- Flexographic and gravure printing.
- Laminating and coating.
- Labels and narrow-web processes.
- Sheets, laminates and flexible packaging.

How to size an industrial corona treater
The power requirement depends on the material, treatment width, number of sides, line speed and target result. A correctly sized system must maintain uniform treatment even when production conditions change.
Power control can be synchronised with line speed to keep the treatment dose stable. Systems are available for different working widths and power ranges, from narrow-web processes to larger installations.
Integrating corona treatment for plastic film
Corona treatment can be integrated into printing, extrusion, laminating and converting lines. In addition to the generator and treatment station, the location, web path, extraction and maintenance access must be considered.
Aufer Surface Tech reviews the actual installation conditions to define a solution compatible with the line and its production requirements.
Corona treatment or industrial plasma
Corona is generally the appropriate choice for continuous materials that require uniform treatment at high speed. Industrial plasma is mainly used for complex parts, three-dimensional surfaces or localised activation.
The choice should not be based on the material alone. Geometry, width, speed and the downstream process also influence the decision.
Validating corona treatment for plastic film
Before selecting equipment, the behaviour of the actual production material should be checked. Trials make it possible to assess wetting, adhesion and result stability, while also determining the necessary power and configuration.
To prepare the study, we need the material, web width, line speed, one- or two-sided treatment requirement and downstream process.
Frequently asked questions
Which materials can be treated?
Corona treatment is commonly used on plastic films, sheets, laminates and label materials. Performance must be verified using the exact production material.
Can treatment be applied at variable speed?
Yes. Power control can adapt to line speed to maintain a stable treatment dose within the defined operating range.
Can it be installed on an existing line?
Yes, provided that the available space, web path, speed, extraction and maintenance conditions are reviewed.
